Air Ambulance Cost in India: The Complete Itemized Breakdown

Every operator says their pricing is "transparent." Almost none show you what that number is actually made of. Here's ours — broken down by component, with real ranges for every corridor we serve.

Search "air ambulance cost in India" and you'll get the same answer from almost every provider: it depends on distance, aircraft type, and medical requirements — call us for a quote. That's true, but it's not an answer — it's a reason to call before you've understood anything. This page changes that.

What Actually Drives the Cost

Six components determine the final number. All six appear as line items in every Airlogic quote — so you can see what changed if you compare quotes on different routes.

01 · Biggest factor
Distance & Route

Flight time drives aircraft operating cost, crew hours, and fuel. A 1.5 hr leg (Raipur → Hyderabad) costs materially less than a 3.5 hr leg (Dibrugarh → Hyderabad). All else being equal, every additional flight-hour adds to the quote.

02 · Fixed per mission
Aircraft Operating Cost

Our King Air B200 (VT-YUD) is a fixed-cost platform — DGCA-certified, single aircraft, no sub-contracting. There is no "budget aircraft" option, which means no variable quality: every patient gets the same machine.

03 · Fixed per mission
Medical Team

Every flight carries an ICU specialist and a flight-certified paramedic. Their fees are a fixed clinical cost per mission, not scaled by severity. You are not paying for a "premium" team — it is the only team we operate.

04 · Both ends
Ground Coordination

Bed-to-bed transfer means a ground ambulance at origin and at destination. Both legs are coordinated by us and included in the quote as a separate line item — not buried in a lump sum.

05 · Route-dependent
Airport & ATC Fees

Landing fees, parking, and ATC slot costs vary by airport and are itemized on every quote. These are not markups — they are third-party charges passed through at cost. We show the breakdown so you can verify them.

06 · No crisis surcharge
Emergency vs. Planned

Emergency dispatches are priced at the same base rate as planned transfers. We do not apply an urgency premium. A family in crisis should not pay more for calling at 2 AM.

Indicative Cost Ranges by Corridor

These are the ranges we quote for standard missions on each corridor — ICU team, ground coordination at both ends, all airport fees included. Final quote depends on patient condition and exact medical configuration, confirmed before booking.

What an Itemized Quote Looks Like

This is a representative breakdown for a mid-length corridor (e.g. Ranchi → Hyderabad, ~2 hrs). Not an exact invoice — actual amounts vary by route and configuration — but the structure of every quote we send looks like this.

Aircraft charter fee (route-based)Largest component. Based on block hours, fuel, and aircraft operating cost for the specific route.
ICU specialist feeFixed per-mission clinical fee for the on-board physician.
Flight paramedic feeFixed per-mission fee for the certified flight paramedic.
Ground ambulance — originPatient's bedside to origin airport, coordinated by us.
Ground ambulance — destinationDestination airport to receiving hospital, coordinated by us.
Airport & ATC feesLanding fees, parking, ATC charges at origin and destination. Passed through at cost, itemized.
ICU equipment (standard kit)Ventilator, defibrillator, monitoring, infusion pumps — all included. No equipment rental charges.
Family attendant (1)One attendant travels with the patient at no additional charge.

Why Our Quote Doesn't Change Mid-Crisis

Every quote is itemized into aircraft fee, clinical salaries, ground coordination, and route charges before departure — and locked at that figure once booking is confirmed. The number you see at booking is the number you pay.

Compare that to operators who quote low to get the call, then add "additional charges" — oxygen surcharge, equipment rental, extra crew fee — once a family is already committed and in no position to negotiate. This practice is common in the broker-heavy part of the market. Our policy prevents it structurally: an itemized, written, locked quote before you pay a rupee.

If a patient's condition deteriorates between booking and departure and requires a different medical configuration, we tell you proactively and revise the quote with your agreement — we do not present surprises at the aircraft door.

Frequently Asked Cost Questions

Why is an air ambulance more expensive than a commercial stretcher transfer?

A dedicated air ambulance carries a full ICU cabin — ventilator, defibrillator, monitoring — and a clinical team whose only job is your patient. A commercial stretcher seat shares a cabin with other passengers and has no ICU equipment onboard. For critical or unstable patients, the dedicated model is the only safe option. For stable patients travelling for planned treatment, a commercial stretcher may be appropriate — we will tell you that honestly if it applies to your case.

Do you offer payment plans or insurance coordination?

We do not currently offer installment payment plans — air ambulance missions require confirmed funding before aircraft departure, given the real costs mobilised on our side. On insurance: we provide full itemized documentation required for insurance claims (policy number, itemized invoice, medical records handover) so your family can submit a claim after the mission. Call us if you have a specific insurer or TPA you're working with and we will discuss what documentation they need.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations with more than 24 hours notice: 25% of total cost retained. Cancellations with 6–24 hours notice: 50% retained. Cancellations with less than 6 hours notice or after aircraft departure from base: 100% retained. This reflects real crew mobilisation and fuel costs incurred on our side. All cancellation terms are confirmed in writing at booking — no surprises if plans change.

Is the price different for an emergency versus a planned transfer?

No — we do not apply a crisis surcharge. Emergency dispatches are priced at the same base rate as planned transfers on the same corridor. The difference in cost between missions reflects route length and medical configuration, not what time you called us.

Can I get a written quote before committing?

Yes, always. Every booking begins with a written, itemized quote confirmed before you pay anything. Call us, share the patient's condition and destination, and we will give you the full breakdown — aircraft fee, clinical team, ground coordination, airport fees — in writing. There is no obligation to proceed until you have reviewed and agreed to the quote.

Are ECMO, neonatal, or organ transfer missions priced differently?

Yes. ECMO transfers require specialist perfusionists and ECMO hardware that add to the clinical cost. Neonatal transfers require a transport incubator and neonatal-trained staff. Organ relay flights are time-critical and may require specific slot coordination. All are priced on a case-by-case basis with a written quote — call us with the specific mission details.
