FULL DISCLOSURE
The Aircraft, Operator and Medical Team, Disclosed Before You Pay
Airlogic runs an operations and coordination desk for air ambulance flights. We are not a broker who passes your case to an unnamed aircraft. Before you pay, you know exactly what will fly, who operates it and who will care for the patient.
The aircraft
A leased King Air B200, registration VT-YUD, flown under AeroKalinga’s DGCA Air Operator Certificate (AOC). Airlogic does not own the aircraft, and it is not stationed in Imphal: we plan its positioning for each mission. If a partner King Air C90 or Pilatus PC-12 is used instead, your quote names that aircraft, its registration and its operator.
The medical team
The clinical lead is an MD intensivist or anaesthesiologist with ICU depth, currently our MD intensivist trained in emergency and critical care at AIIMS New Delhi, with a flight paramedic who has 100+ air ambulance transfers. On board: transport ventilator, cardiac monitor, defibrillator, syringe pumps, oxygen, suction and an emergency drug and airway (RSI) kit. Specialty kits, such as for newborns, are arranged per case.
The airport
Flights operate from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal (formerly Tulihal; IATA: IMF, ICAO: VEIM), about 7 km south of the city centre. Its runway of about 2,746 metres suits fixed-wing medical flights in principle, but our ops desk confirms airport hours, handling and permissions for every mission.
BEFORE YOU BOOK
Fit to Fly First: What Families in Imphal Should Know
Fit to fly comes first
- The patient must be assessed fit to fly for this journey
- A bed must be confirmed at the receiving hospital
- Some patients are safer staying where they are, and we will tell you honestly
- Specialty equipment is planned per case, not assumed
- We never promise a medical outcome
Who this page is for
- Families of patients in hospitals in Imphal
- Patients elsewhere in Manipur who can be brought to Imphal airport
- Doctors and hospital coordinators planning a step-up transfer
- Families bringing a patient home to Imphal after treatment elsewhere
What to say when you call
- Where the patient is now: hospital and ward
- Age and the main problem, in simple words
- Oxygen, ventilator or strong medicines, if any
- Where you want to go: city or hospital
- Whether a receiving bed is confirmed
- Who is deciding, and who is paying
WHY PATIENTS ARE FLOWN OUT OF MANIPUR
When Do Patients in Manipur Need an Air Ambulance?
Manipur is shaped like a bowl: the Imphal valley in the middle, with hill districts all around. Hospitals in Imphal handle most emergencies, but some patients need a super-specialty centre that is far away. The road to Guwahati, the nearest large medical hub, climbs through the hills, and Kolkata, Delhi and South India are only practical by air for a critically ill patient.
Common reasons for an air ambulance from Imphal
- Heart attack needing angioplasty or cardiac surgery
- Stroke or brain haemorrhage needing neurosurgery
- Serious road accident, head or spinal injury
- Cancer treatment at a specialised centre
- Liver or kidney failure, or transplant evaluation
- Severe burns or multi-organ failure needing advanced ICU care
Why fly instead of going by road
- The Imphal to Guwahati road often takes about 9 to 14 hours, even when it is open
- In the monsoon (roughly June to September), landslides and blockades on NH-2 and NH-37 can slow or stop road travel
- Kolkata, Delhi and South India are not practical by road for a critical patient
- By air, Imphal to Kolkata takes about 2 hours and Imphal to Delhi about 3 hours 40 minutes
- Air is not always better: it is one option that must pass clinical and flight checks
COMPARE YOUR OPTIONS
Air Ambulance vs Commercial Flight vs Road from Imphal
| Option | Best for | Medical care during travel | Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air ambulance (chartered) | Critical or unstable patients, including ventilator and ICU cases | Doctor, paramedic and full ICU equipment from bedside to bedside | Flies when the patient is ready, within airport operating hours |
| Commercial flight with stretcher | Stable patients who are fit to fly on a scheduled flight | Limited. Needs airline approval and a medical escort | Depends on airline schedules and stretcher availability |
| Road ambulance | Stable patients over short distances | Depends on the ambulance. Long hours on hill roads | Imphal to Guwahati often takes about 9 to 14 hours, when the road is open |
Not sure which option is right? Share the patient’s reports with our flight desk and we will tell you honestly whether an air ambulance is needed.

3. Bedside pickup in Imphal
Our medical team takes over at the hospital bedside and moves the patient by ALS ground ambulance to Imphal airport, as listed on your quote.

Example Transfers from Imphal
Illustrative examples of how we plan typical transfers from Imphal. They show our process and are not records of specific patients.
EXAMPLE
Imphal to Delhi: heart patient needing cardiac surgery
A patient who has had a heart attack is stable on medication at a hospital in Imphal, but needs cardiac surgery at a super-specialty hospital in Delhi.
- About ₹20.5 lakh
- About 3 hr 40 min flying
- King Air B200
- The family checks the estimate online and calls our flight desk
- We share the aircraft, registration, operator, doctor and paramedic details and a written quote
- Our doctor reviews the reports with the treating cardiologist and plans oxygen and cardiac medicines
- The team takes over at the bedside and moves the patient to Imphal airport by ground ambulance
- Continuous cardiac monitoring during the flight, with a defibrillator ready
- Ground ambulance in Delhi and handover to the cardiac team
EXAMPLE
Imphal to Chennai: ventilated patient after a head injury
A patient with a serious head injury from a road accident is on a ventilator in an Imphal ICU, and the family wants treatment at a neurosciences centre in Chennai.
- About ₹22 lakh
- About 4 hr 5 min flying
- Ventilator case
- Our intensivist speaks with the treating ICU team about ventilator settings and sedation
- The written quote confirms the aircraft, crew, equipment and final price before booking
- The patient is shifted from the hospital ventilator to our transport ventilator at the bedside
- Sedation and blood pressure support run on syringe pumps throughout the journey
- The doctor and paramedic monitor oxygen, pressure and heart rhythm for the whole flight
- Ground ambulance in Chennai and a full clinical handover to the neuro ICU
EXAMPLE
Coming home to Imphal after treatment in a metro
After weeks of treatment in Delhi, a patient is stable enough to continue care closer to family in Imphal, but still needs oxygen and a doctor alongside. The treating team confirms fit-to-fly, and a bed or suitable ward plan is ready in Imphal. We quote the flight with ground ambulances at both ends, and the patient flies home with our doctor and paramedic. “Stable enough” is a medical judgement, not a family wish alone.
THE JOURNEY
Your Air Ambulance Journey from Imphal, Stage by Stage
What actually happens between the hospital bed in Imphal and the receiving hospital bed, in plain language.
1. Leaving the hospital bed
Nurses and doctors prepare the patient, lines are secured and oxygen is planned for the road. Our flight team joins at the bedside so nothing important is lost. It helps to choose one family spokesperson.
2. The road to Imphal airport
The airport is about 7 km south of the city. Traffic, rain and checkpoints can vary, so the ALS ambulance keeps monitoring and support going the whole way.
3. At the airport
Permissions, loading, a safety briefing and a final weather check. It can feel slow, but careful is safe. The team will not skip fit-to-fly because of pressure.
4. In the air
The doctor and paramedic can reach the patient and every machine. They watch breathing, heart rhythm, blood pressure and drips, and treat changes within the flight plan.
5. At the destination
Another ALS ambulance, as quoted, takes the patient to the receiving hospital, which already knows the patient is coming.
6. Handover and after
Our team hands over what happened in the air, current settings and open problems. From then on the receiving hospital leads care. Keep our number for any quote follow-up.
MYTHS VS TRUTH
Air Ambulance Myths Families in Manipur Hear, and the Truth
Worried about being cheated or misled? Here is what is true for Airlogic flights from Imphal.

Myth: “Flying ICU” means any patient can fly and will get better.
Truth: Fit-to-fly comes first, and no one can promise a medical outcome.
Myth: Any doctor on board is the same as an intensivist.
Truth: Our clinical lead is an MD intensivist or anaesthesiologist, with a flight paramedic.
Myth: GST is always zero on anything called air ambulance.
Truth: GST is nil only on qualifying emergency patient evacuation, as shown on your invoice.
Myth: Paying more means weather and night rules do not matter.

Truth: A direct desk plans and quotes on a disclosed aircraft. A broker may pass your case to an unnamed one.

Truth: IMF has a runway of about 2,746 m. Every mission is still confirmed by our ops desk.
Myth: If the road is closed, an aircraft can always come in one hour.

BEFORE YOU FLY
Documents and Planning for an Air Ambulance from Imphal
Documents to keep ready
- Patient’s ID proof, such as Aadhaar or passport
- ID proof of the family member travelling
- Referral or discharge summary from the treating doctor
- Latest reports: scans, blood tests and ECG
- Bed confirmation from the receiving hospital
- Signed consent form (we provide it)
Flight planning in Manipur
- Imphal airport has fixed operating hours. Flights outside them need a watch-hour extension, charged extra
- Winter morning fog and monsoon weather can affect timing, so we plan the flight around conditions
- Weather at the destination matters too: a clear morning in Imphal does not clear fog in Delhi
- Completing hospital discharge before the aircraft arrives avoids waiting charges
- One attendant may travel with the patient if cabin space, weight and clinical safety allow. Other family members travel by commercial flight
PAYING WITH CONFIDENCE
Payment, Comparing Quotes, Escorts and Luggage
Paying without fear
- See the written quote first, and understand every line
- Check the GST line for qualifying emergency evacuation
- Never transfer money on a verbal “around this much” from an unknown number
- If an employer, insurer or government scheme may help, tell us early
Comparing two companies
- Named aircraft, registration and whose AOC it flies under
- The level of the doctor on board
- Whether ground ambulances at both ends are included
- The GST statement on the quote
- Cancellation and change terms, in writing
Escorts and luggage
- Escort seats are limited: the medical load comes first
- Bring the medicine list and spare doses if the hospital advises
- Carry ID and reports, on paper or phone, as advised
- One small bag per escort, if allowed. No large luggage
FOR DOCTORS AND DISTRICT FAMILIES
For Hospital Teams in Imphal and Families in the Hill Districts
For hospital teams coordinating from Imphal
A short handover speeds up an honest quote. Our flight team still does its own fit-to-fly assessment.
- One-page clinical abstract: diagnosis, course and current support
- Airway and ventilator settings
- Vasopressors and other drips, with doses
- Infection alerts, if any
- Key imaging and critical recent labs
- Family decision-maker’s name and phone
- Receiving consultant and bed status, if known
For families coming from hill districts
Many patients start in a district hospital in Ukhrul, Churachandpur, Senapati, Chandel or elsewhere, move into Imphal (RIMS, JNIMS, Shija or another unit), and only later need a metro transfer.
- The first road trip into Imphal may already tire the patient and family
- Papers may sit in more than one hospital file, so collect them early
- Tell us clearly whether the patient is already in Imphal or still in a district hospital, because the plan differs
- If the patient is still in a district, the first step is usually a safe transfer into Imphal

Which airport does the air ambulance use in Imphal?
Air ambulance flights from Manipur operate from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal (formerly Tulihal; IATA: IMF, ICAO: VEIM), about 7 km south of the city centre, with a runway of about 2,746 metres. Our medical team moves the patient from the hospital to the aircraft by ALS ground ambulance.
Can you pick up a patient from a hospital in Imphal?
Yes. We offer bedside-to-bedside transfers. Our doctor and paramedic take over at the hospital bedside in Imphal, for example at RIMS, JNIMS or Shija Hospitals, and stay with the patient until handover at the receiving hospital. Hospitals are named for reference only, not as partnership claims.
Can patients from other districts of Manipur use your air ambulance?
Yes. Patients from districts such as Churachandpur, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Ukhrul and Senapati are brought to Imphal airport by ground ambulance, and then flown to the destination city.
Is a doctor on board every air ambulance from Imphal?
Yes. Every flight has a critical care doctor and a trained flight paramedic, with a ventilator, cardiac monitor, defibrillator and emergency medicines on board.
What documents are needed for an air ambulance from Imphal?
Keep ready the patient’s ID proof (Aadhaar or passport), ID proof of the family member travelling, the referral or discharge summary from the treating doctor, the latest reports, and bed confirmation from the receiving hospital. We provide the consent form.
Can a family member travel with the patient?
One attendant may travel with the patient if cabin space, weight and clinical safety allow. It is not automatic, and other family members usually travel by commercial flight. We confirm this in your written quote.
Is a commercial flight with a stretcher cheaper than an air ambulance?
A commercial stretcher is usually cheaper, but it is only suitable for stable patients, depends on airline schedules, and has limited medical support. Critical and ventilator patients need an air ambulance with a doctor and ICU equipment.
Can an air ambulance fly from Imphal at night?
Imphal airport has fixed operating hours. A flight outside those hours needs an airport watch-hour extension, which is charged extra and must be arranged in advance. Our flight desk will tell you the fastest safe option.
Does health insurance cover an air ambulance from Imphal?
Some health insurance policies cover air ambulance transfers, usually up to a set limit. Check your policy or ask your insurer or TPA, and ask us for the invoice and flight details your insurer needs.
Which aircraft will fly my patient from Imphal?
Usually a leased King Air B200, registration VT-YUD, flown under AeroKalinga’s DGCA Air Operator Certificate. If a partner King Air C90 or Pilatus PC-12 is used instead, your written quote names the aircraft, its registration and its operator before you pay.
Is the air ambulance stationed in Imphal?
No. The aircraft is not based in Imphal. We plan its positioning for each mission, and any positioning cost is shown in your written quote.
Is GST charged on an air ambulance from Imphal?
GST is nil on qualifying emergency patient evacuation, as stated on your invoice. Your written quote shows the tax treatment for your flight.
Is Airlogic a broker?
No. Airlogic runs an operations and coordination desk. You speak with us directly, we plan the flight, and we disclose the aircraft, operator and medical team before you pay.
Can you fly a patient back home to Imphal after treatment?
Yes. We arrange return-to-home flights to Imphal from Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and other cities, with a doctor and paramedic on board and a ground ambulance to the patient’s home or hospital.
Can every ICU patient fly from Imphal?
No. The patient must be assessed fit to fly for that journey. Some patients are safer staying where they are or moving by another plan, and we will tell you honestly.
Do we need a confirmed bed at the receiving hospital?
Yes. A receiving bed must be confirmed before the flight. Your treating team usually arranges it, and we coordinate the rest of the plan around it.
Is the ground ambulance included?
For bed-to-bed transfers, ALS ground ambulances at both ends appear as line items on your written quote. If you only want airport-to-airport, tell us and the quote will show exactly what is included.
Why does the quote have so many lines?
So you can see the aircraft, medical team, ground ambulances, airport charges and any extras separately, instead of one unclear number. Itemizing is how we earn your trust.
Can we book a normal passenger ticket and carry an oxygen cylinder instead?
No. A scheduled passenger flight is not an air ambulance. Critically ill patients need a medical flight with a clinical team and an ICU-configured cabin. Stable patients may qualify for an airline stretcher, which the airline must approve.
How many family members can travel as escorts?
Escort space is limited because the medical load comes first. One attendant may travel if space, weight and clinical safety allow. Grandparents and children usually cannot all fly on the aircraft.
The patient is still in Churachandpur, Ukhrul or Senapati. Can you help?
Yes. Often the first step is a safe road transfer into Imphal, then the flight. Tell us the patient’s true current location, because the plan differs for a district hospital and an Imphal bedside.
Will weather stop an air ambulance from Imphal?
It can. Monsoon rain, low cloud and winter fog can delay flights, and bad weather at a hub or destination city can cause delays even when Imphal is clear. We communicate every delay and never launch unsafely.
How do I book an air ambulance in Imphal?
Call our 24/7 flight desk on +91 96543 19329, or get an instant estimate on our online calculator. Before you book, we share the aircraft, operator, medical team and a written quote.
